Certain 2022–2024 Ford Maverick pickup trucks with the base stereo, known as “Connected Touch Radio,” are recalled because the video feed from the backup camera may freeze. Both a safety and convenience feature, the backup camera is standard on all new vehicles, and it activates automatically when the transmission is in Reverse.

The action involves 144,516 trucks. Documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration indicate that the problem software was used in production from Feb. 3, 2021, to Nov. 28, 2023. Trucks built since then have updated software.

Through its investigation, Ford identified several issues with the camera-related software. A software update, available at no charge at the local Ford or Lincoln dealership, will correct these various risk factors.

Ford is aware of two crashes, with no injuries, related to this condition.

Owners will be notified starting Sept. 30, 2024.
