Nobody wants an appliance that conks out after you’ve owned it for just a few years, but unfortunately, that could be the risk with your next dehumidifier. Dehumidifiers don’t exactly have the best longevity—in fact, our surveys of CR members who own them indicate that nearly a fifth (19 percent) of dehumidifiers are likely to develop problems or break within the first four years of ownership.
But the same surveys reveal that there are certain brands that rise to the top when it comes to reliability. Of the 23 brands we currently rate for reliability, five dehumidifier brands earn a top score, and eight are rated very good. An additional eight are judged to have a predicted reliability that’s merely acceptable. The two lowest-scoring brands earned reliability ratings that were less than satisfactory or dismal.
The rankings are based on surveys taken in 2023 and 2025 of 11,944 CR members who purchased 13,632 dehumidifiers new between 2014 and 2025. The results are used to calculate our predicted reliability rating, which uses a statistical model to estimate the problem rates of a dehumidifier by the end of the fourth year of ownership. The ratings are adjusted for factors such as extended warranty and service contract status, and how many months in a year the dehumidifier is used.
