If you’re in the market for a new air purifier, vacuum, dehumidifier, or other items around your home, you may be able to find them at a discount right now. Thanks in part to back-to-school sales, we’re seeing some offers around items you may need for students returning to dorms and off-campus apartments, such as bed and bath, vacuums, and small air care appliances.

When it comes to large appliances like washers and dryers, you might have reasonable concerns about prices going up with possible tariffs coming. Right now, prices are up anywhere from $50 to $100 compared to what we saw for July Fourth and Memorial Day. With Labor Day at the end of August, you may see better discounts, so it is probably worth waiting until the end of the month to maximize your savings.

We have evaluated all of the products in this list and monitor the prices of everything we test all year to help you know exactly what kind of deal you’re getting. This allows us to provide as much context as possible to help you make informed decisions, whether you decide to buy now, hold out for a better price later, or choose one retailer over another.

    Air Conditioners

The 12,000-Btu Midea MAW12HV1CWT delivers strong all-around performance, with fast, accurate cooling and a heat mode for year-round comfort. In our tests, it reached the set temperature quickly and maintained it without much fluctuation, earning top marks for comfort.

It’s fairly quiet on the low setting, though things get noticeably louder on high. Even so, the model handled our brownout test without issue, continuing to operate smoothly under heat and voltage stress. The controls are simple and well laid out, making it easy to get up and running right out of the box.

    Still undecided?
CR's expert guidance and unbiased reviews can help you purchase with confidence.

The controls of the GE Profile AHTT06BC aren’t as intuitive as those of competitors, but there’s no disputing that the model is very easy on the ears. On the highest setting, it’s the quietest unit in our ratings. In fact, it’s the only model to earn our top rating for noise on both high and low settings. It’s also the only model that runs quietly but doesn’t have an inverter compressor, which allows the unit to turn itself down rather than off once the room temperature is achieved.

    Frigidaire FHWW064WD1

This Frigidaire window AC, rated for midsized rooms of 100 to 250 square feet, could be a good option at this price. When it comes to noise levels at low power, it scored very well. It also gets high marks for ease of use and the ability to handle a brownout. And the predicted reliability for Frigidaire ACs is as good as it gets.

    Vacuums and Floor Care

The Shark PowerDetect IP1251 comes with lots of bells and whistles, including a dirt detection feature and a floor detect mode that adjusts the brush roll speed based on the surface it’s vacuuming. It’s very good at sucking up debris from carpets and is even more impressive at picking up pet hair. The vacuum can be converted into a hand vac and folded for storage.

The Dyson 360 vis nav stands out for its unique features and powerful cleaning performance despite some limitations and its high price. It’s on the heavy side but compensates with extremely strong suction, effectively picking up pet hair and embedded dirt. Instead of a conventional side brush, it uses an extending side duct to tackle edges and corners. It also has a large brush roll that spans the full size of the vacuum for effective cleaning, and though its dustbin is relatively small, it’s equipped with a convenient one-touch ejection system for easy emptying.

If you’re a pet owner, the price on this Shark Vertex DuoClean AZ2002 is a real steal—it was as low as $270 during Prime Day and other big July sales, but this is the best discount available now. It picks up pet hair especially well, has exceptional suction power, and does a solid job containing small dust particles. It also has a lift-away canister, which makes cleaning hard-to-reach places easier. The self-cleaning brush roll prevents pet hair (and any long hair) from wrapping around it and getting tangled in the vacuum.

    Air Purifiers

The Blueair Blue Pure 311i Max Air Purifier features an indicator light to alert you when you need to change or clean the filter. It also has a dirt sensor and four speeds. On its higher setting, it’s terrific at removing dust, pollen, and smoke, but expect a bit of noise. It’s easy to use, and is designed for use in a large space of 350 to 650 square feet. CR members find Blueair air purifiers to be highly reliable, and they’re very satisfied with their purchases.

The Levoit PlasmaPro 600S is a solid performer all-around, clearing the air of dust, pollen, and smoke at both higher and lower settings with great results. It’s noisy while running at a high speed, but it’s relatively quiet at low speeds, making it ideal for an office or bedroom. And you don’t have to worry about keeping track of filter changes: An indicator light alerts you when it’s time. This machine also has a dust sensor and a programmable timer.

The Woozoo does a solid job at removing dust, pollen, and smoke at both high and low speeds. What’s more, it’s one of the more cost efficient large room air purifiers to operate and maintain. Just expect a bit of noise while it’s running.

    Pillows

Are there higher-rated pillows in our ratings? Yes. But even when it’s not on sale, this Threshold Firm Cool Touch pillow is a bargain. It’s washable and filled with polyester fiber batting, and our tests found it’s very breathable and doesn’t retain heat. It’s perfect for side and back sleepers alike. For that price, however, there aren’t any features like adjustable filling or memory foam. To that end, it scored on the lower end of our resilience tests, is resilience, so it may not keep its form as long as other pillows.

There’s a buy one, get one free offer for the Sleep Number ComfortFit Ultimate pillow. This pillow is made of a blend of memory foam pieces and down alternative fibers. Inside the pillow casing are three layers that can be added or removed to tailor the pillow’s comfort to your individual needs. It earns top support ratings for both side and back sleepers, and our testers find it to be very breathable. It’s not as resilient as other options on this list, though, and might not hold its shape over time.

The Weekender Gel Memory Foam pillow marries the cooling properties of a gel pad with polyurethane foam. It offers only average support for back sleepers, but it’s very good at supporting those who sleep on their side. Our testers find the resiliency and breathability of the pillow to be top-notch, as is its breathability.

    Sheets

A set of 100 percent cotton sheets at a synthetic fabric price is hard to come by. But this set from California Design Den offers quality and affordability, especially since it’s still available for its Prime Day price. It excelled in our fit tests, so you’ll never have to worry about the corners rolling up mid-sleep, and our shrinkage assessment proved that multiple washes won’t significantly reduce its size. It’s also one of the softer-feeling fabrics we’ve tested. However, you can expect a fair amount of wrinkling, and the tear resistance is just average.

According to our sensory test, the Lands’ End Premium Supima Cotton Sheet Set is one of the softest in our ratings. Though you will experience some wrinkling, it still performs better than most natural cotton sheets in our wrinkling assessment. With an excellent fit for mattresses 14 inches thick and under, little to no shrinkage, and a very strong weave, it is a solid pick.

    Dehumidifiers

The medium-capacity Midea MAD35S1QWT is a top performer in our ratings and can remove 35 pints of moisture from the air per day. It excels our water removal, energy efficiency, and convenience tests. It also earns an excellent score for noise, making it one of the quietest models in this category and earning it the title of the highest-scoring dehumidifier. This model is equipped with a digital display, a built-in water pump, and a timer.

    Humidifiers

The low-priced, ultrasonic Levoit Classic 300S can humidify a room of up to 505 square feet, which earns it a solid rating in our output test. It aces other evaluations too. It has a variety of features including automatic shut-off, a digital humidity display more accurate than those of most competitors, and the option to diffuse aromas. It’s been as low as $64, but this is the best discount we’ve seen in a few months.

This portable HoMedics humidifier offers solid overall performance and is intended to humidify areas up to 25 square feet. It earns top marks in our noise and efficiency tests, but performs poorly when filled with hard water. Despite this and a few other drawbacks—a short power cord and only two settings—it’s still a solid choice, especially in this price range.

You can’t really go wrong with the HoMedics UHE-CMTF45-GY Total Comfort UV-C, which is designed to humidify small rooms of up to 278 square feet. It’s quiet, energy-efficient, and has top-tier moisture output. It comes with a nightlight feature and has an indicator that shows when you need to clean the humidifier.

    Blankets

    Brooklinen Down Comforter (King)

    Brooklinen Down Comforter (King)

Brooklinen’s down comforter stands out for its high-quality construction, ultra-soft feel, and excellent temperature regulation, and right now it’s 20 percent off, 5 percent more than usual. Available in both down and down-alternative options, it comes in lightweight, all-season, or ultra-warm varieties. The all-season down version (shown here) is cozy and breathable, with no noticeable clumping or feather leakage. Its sateen shell adds a touch of luxury, and features a grid design and corner ties to keep it in place. Though pricey—about $500 for a king at full price—it’s a worthwhile investment for those seeking top-tier comfort. It’s an even better value during Amazon Prime Day. Brooklinen also offers a 365-day return policy (minus a $9.95 fee). The duvet is Downmark certified.

    Sleep Number True Temp Blanket

    Sleep Number True Temp Blanket

This cooling blanket from Sleep Number is not one of the chilliest options among the cooling blankets we tried, though it will keep you cooler than a traditional blanket. But it has many other great qualities that may make it worth a look. It’s well-constructed, incredibly soft, and cool to the touch. Plus, the material is very thin, making it easy to fold and store.

    Buffy Cloud Comforter

    Buffy Cloud Comforter

Buffy’s Cloud Comforter is the softest choice in our at-home assessment, and it’s back down to the lowest price we’ve seen at Amazon. Thanks to its smooth, silky feel and fluffiness, the duvet is comfortable enough to use without a duvet cover. Made of recycled materials, it’s uniformly stuffed in layers to prevent clumping and shedding. The shell material is 100 percent sateen-weave Tencel lyocell.

    Bath

    Pzotruf Automatic Soap Dispenser

    Pzotruf Automatic Soap Dispenser

The Pzotruf Automatic Soap Dispenser is easy to use and fill, with a system that doesn’t drip or make a mess, and it has a 17-fluid-ounceT reservoir—the largest capacity of all of the dispensers we evaluated—so you don’t have to fill it often. The Pzotruf runs on external batteries (not included), which may be ideal if you don’t want to rely on a charging cable or port. The dispenser has a button system that you can use to toggle through the five volume modes; this system works okay, but there’s no label, so you have to guess which setting you’re on. We found that we actually liked this setup because we had more control over the volume.

The Company Store Cotton Turkish Bath Towels

The Company Store Cotton Turkish Bath Towels

These towels are perfectly acceptable entry-level towels. They’re made from extra-long combed Turkish cotton, so they’re somewhat soft, but because the pile is thin and light, the Company Cotton bath towels from the Company Store don’t exude elegance and luxury. Those who prefer their towels to have a more textured surface should consider these, as should folks who want good-quality materials without a big price tag. It’s one of the most absorbent towels we tried, yet also nears the top of the list for drying time. So while it isn’t the most spa-like towel, it nevertheless has superb performance.

    Clothes Steamers

Conair Turbo ExtremeSteam Steam & Press With Turbo GSD59X

Conair Turbo ExtremeSteam Steam & Press With Turbo GSD59X

The Conair GS59X does a good job evening out rumples in thin cotton dress shirts, but like most handheld steamers, it does struggle with creases. It took about 12 minutes to steam a button-up and couldn’t handle a more challenging linen shirt. This steamer scores solidly average scores in our lab tests across the board, including for steam power (16.62 grams per minute), heat time (one minute), and run time (13 minutes). The tank is relatively easy to fill, and the steamer can operate vertically and horizontally.

    Packing Cubes

    Amazon Basics Packing Cubes

    Amazon Basics Packing Cubes

You can save a few bucks on this packing cube set from Amazon. The cubes come in small, medium, large, and slim. Overall, the quality is reflected in its name: It’s good but basic. And though it might not have extra features such as pockets or buckles, the Amazon Basics 4-Piece Packing Travel Organizer Cubes Set is perfect for people who don’t want to deal with too many cubes and just want something simple and functional.

    Bagail 8Set Packing Cubes

    Bagail 8Set Packing Cubes

The Bagail 8Set Packing Cubes won CR’s evaluator over with the sheer number and variety of cubes it offers. In addition to three packing cubes (medium, large, and extra large) that have mesh on the top panels to help you identify the contents inside quickly, it also comes with two zipper bags, a cosmetics bag, a shoe bag, and a drawstring bag that you can use to separate your dirty laundry. The extra organizational features were ultimately what gained Bagail the edge over the other packing cubes CR tried.

    Veken Packing Cubes

    Veken Packing Cubes

Veken Packing Cubes provide great bang for your buck, though they are a few dollars more than we’ve seen recently. This set has the largest capacity among the cubes we tried, and you get eight different ones to stay organized: four small, medium, large, and extra large, a laundry bag, a shoe bag, a toiletries bag, and an accessories bag. The laundry bag, in particular, is on the larger side, which can be a real asset when you’re on a longer trip.

    Vacuum Storage Bags

    Cozy Essential Vacuum Storage Bags

    Cozy Essential Vacuum Storage Bags

The Cozy Essential Vacuum Storage Bags are at the best price we’ve seen. They come in various combo packs. This set includes 20 bags, with four each of these sizes: jumbo, large, medium, small, and travel roll-up. Our evaluator liked that they were easy to both pump and compress, and the variety of sizes offers a lot of convenience for travel and storage.

    Magic Bag Instant Space Saver

    Magic Bag Instant Space Saver

If you’re looking to store your winter clothes, vacuum storage bags can be a great way to get them out of the way without taking up a ton of space. And this set of three from MagicBag could be a good option, especially for under $10. While these bags did require a bigger, more physical effort to seal, our evaluator noted that they didn’t have caps on the valves, which made it easier to use them overall. And with the zipper, one side is blue and the other is yellow—it turns green when it’s closed properly.

    Cordless Drills

    Bosch Chameleon 12V Cordless Drill

This 12-volt Bosch Chameleon cordless drill has enough power to tackle jobs around the house efficiently. It has two speed settings and comes with four nifty attachments that allow you to work easily in all kinds of tight corners and hard-to-reach spots.

    Garbage Disposals

The 1.25-horsepower Frigidaire FF13DISPC1 continuous-feed garbage disposal excelled in our tests, quickly and (fairly) quietly grinding scraps into small particles that won’t cause clogs. The 13-pound disposal comes with a 10-year warranty, a removable splash guard, and a plug-in power cord. Its magnetic ring prevents utensils from falling inside, and antimicrobial protection guards against odors.

    Under-Sink Water Filters

You can score this Everpure under-sink dual system at almost half off the regular price. It’s certified to remove key contaminants—lead, chlorine, and PFAS. Its filter life indicator lets you know when it’s time to replace the cartridge, which we estimate will cost $157 per year. That’s a little more pricey than replacement filters on similar models, but Everpure’s filters last longer than any of its tested competitors, cleaning 1,000 gallons before needing replacement.

The Aqua-Pure under-sink is a very good under-sink water filter that’s certified to remove lead and chlorine, and does a very good job of removing bad tastes and odor, according to our tests. The downside is that the cost of replacement filters (about $323 per year) is more than twice that of similar models, so beware of that before you jump on this deal.

    Washers and Dryers

If sleek washers are your style, consider LG’s Signature WM9900HSA front-loader. Recently introduced, it offers a minimalist brushed-steel design with an intuitive LCD touchscreen, generous 5.8 cubic-foot capacity, 26 wash programs, and AI technology that automatically detects fabrics and load size and selects the ideal settings for both the washer and its companion dryer. It also has an auto dispenser that releases detergent for up to 36 loads before refilling and can be operated remotely through its app. The price on this machine was slightly lower in the spring, but this is still a good buy.

The LG DLGX5501W offers great performance and some nice extras at a moderate price, and it’s $100 less than it was for July Fourth, the best price we’ve seen all year. It scores admirably in our tests for drying performance, convenience, and noise, and offers a steam option, extended tumble, and WiFi capability—and it’s our top-rated dryer. Its stainless steel drum has a 7.4-cubic-foot capacity. In our surveys, CR members rank LG gas dryers at the top for both reliability and owner satisfaction.
