    Whether you’re looking to start a new habit in the New Year or simply get back into running, a home treadmill is a tempting piece of equipment. And if you’ve followed fitness trends over the past few years, you’re likely curious about Peloton. The company first made news with its stationary bike, and more recently began offering a treadmill as well.

    So is the Peloton Tread—with its built-in screen, designed to connect to Peloton’s subscription service—really worth it? With its first two treadmills—the first was unveiled in 2018—Peloton ran into several safety issues, and both the Tread+ and the Tread were recalled in 2021. The new Peloton Tread, however, is an updated version of the smaller of the two machines sold by the company, and includes a fix to the issue that caused the recall. (An updated version of the Tread+ has not been released.) 

    Our testers put the Peloton Tread through its paces, checking for build quality and user safety and running a testing rig to simulate a half-year of running. Here’s what they found.
