Mixers
KitchenAid’s artisan series is a bump up from its classic line. The 10-speed KitchenAid Artisan Series KSM195PSBK comes with the usual attachments, plus a pastry beater, a bowl shield to prevent splatters, and an extra 3-quart bowl for smaller jobs. The standard-issue stainless bowl is 5 quarts. In our tests this mixer aces our tasks for whipping cream and mixing cookie dough and is almost as good at kneading bread dough. It works quietly, and our testers find it very convenient to change the beaters and clean. It weighs 21 pounds and has a tilt-head, so you’ll need some clearance between the counter and the cabinets. Bonus: You have your choice of 10 colors.
The GE Profile P8MSASS6TBB Smart is an impressive newcomer to our ratings. This pricey, lift-style mixer aces our tests for kneading bread dough and mixing large batches of chocolate chip cookies, and it’s pretty speedy at mixing heavy cream, too. One nice feature is the built-in scale that allows you to weigh ingredients right in the 7-quart mixing bowl. Downloading the app allows you to access other smart features, including voice activation and guided recipes. But beware: At more than 40 pounds, this is not a mixer you’ll want to move around a lot.
The less expensive KitchenAid Classic Series K45SSWH matches the performance of other KitchenAids in our ratings test for test, meaning it excels at mixing, kneading, and whipping, and it does it all quietly. The 10-speed mixer comes with a 5-quart stainless steel bowl (without a handle), a flat beater, a dough hook, and a wire whisk. It’s compatible with all KitchenAid attachments, so you can branch out from baking into more savory foods, such as sausage and pasta. It weighs 21 pounds. Unlike some KitchenAids, this model comes only in white and black.
The Cooklee SM-1551 holds its own against better-known competitors. And the price is right. Whipping time and mixing cookie dough are top-notch, and it kneads bread dough well and quietly. Our testers found it convenient to use. It’s lighter than any of our other top contenders, and the bowl is almost 10 quarts vs. 5 for most other stand mixers. Whether you need that much volume is your call. Keep in mind that this mixer has a tilt head.
The KitchenAid Architect KHM7210 7-Speed hand mixer comes in five colors, including the brand’s familiar Empire Red, but check before ordering to make sure the color you want is included in the sale. This little handheld is proficient at speedily whipping cream and tackling stiff cookie dough while keeping a lid on the noise level. Our testers found its controls convenient, grip comfortable, and beater insertion a breeze. The model comes with wire beaters and a whisk.
Air Fryers
The NuWave Brio is now at the lowest price it’s ever been, and we don’t expect it to go any lower. It has especially easy-to-use controls that make it easy to adjust temperature and time during the cooking process. In our tests, we also found it to be pretty quiet when operating. Its measured capacity is 2.9 quarts, so it’s not the right air fryer if you like cooking for a crowd. But it’s perfect for small batches of fries or vegetables, or cooking dinner for one to two people. It comes with an impressive 100 programmed cook settings for specific foods and 50 memory slots where you can save your temperature and cooking time preferences. It’s dishwasher-safe and comes with a one-year warranty.
The Instant Vortex 4 Plus Air Fryer 4QT is a standout for the legibility of its digital controls, relatively low noise levels, and ease of cleaning. What’s more, its square basket design makes it easy to fit in a small pyrex dish or baking pan—great for turning out sweet treats. The measured 3-quart model has a 1-year warranty.
The Instant Vortex Plus 6-Quart Air Fryer has a clear window, making it easy to monitor your cooking without having to pull out the basket. Despite its name, the model’s measured capacity is 5.2 quarts. It earns a top-notch rating for its controls and comes with customizable cooking programs and a digital display. In addition to being easy to use, this dishwasher-safe fryer also shows strong performances in our noise and cleaning tests.
The Cosori Lite CAF-LI401S Smart Air Fryer works with Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant, allowing you to track cooking progress and receive notifications to shake or flip your food. This air fryer is rarely on sale, so if you’ve been looking for a smart model, now may be the time to buy. In our tests, the CAF-LI401S earns top marks for the usability of its controls and ease of cleaning—but it can be a bit noisy.
Dash may not have the same name recognition as Ninja or Cuisinart, but the 2.6-quart Dash Tasti-Crisp Ceramic DCAF26CM air fryer earns solid scores in CR’s tests and comes at a sale price that’s better than we’ve seen so far for this model. With food contact surfaces made of nonstick ceramic, it earns top marks for ease of cleaning even though it’s not dishwasher safe. We found it runs more quietly than many other air fryer models to boot. The DCAF26CM has a small footprint, making it a smart choice for a dorm room or for those with limited counter space.
College students, solo dwellers, and anybody who’s a tad tight on counter space—the Cosori Lite CAF-LI211 is for you. This measured 1.7-quart air fryer is packed with appealing features such as a dishwasher-safe basket, preprogrammed settings, and a digital display. But with a footprint of just 9x11 inches, it comes in a small package and at a fairly small price, too. What’s more, this model was a standout in our tests, receiving high marks for being easy to use and clean, and remaining at low volume while cooking. The Cosori Lite comes with a two-year warranty.
The Cosori Dual Blaze has a large measured capacity (4.7 quarts), smartphone integration, and all-around strong performance in all the areas we test. The monolithic exterior of this air fryer might not be to everyone’s taste, but with few nooks and crannies in its design, this machine is easy to clean. It also comes with a two-year warranty, a year longer than many air fryer warranties.
Coffee Makers
The Nespresso Creatista Plus is a high-end single-serve coffee maker aimed at true coffee enthusiasts. It combines Nespresso’s popular and convenient pods with features like a built-in frother for milk-based drinks like lattes and cappuccinos. The silver finish just looks plain cool, too.
As glass-carafe drip coffee machines go, this Cuisinart drip coffee maker ranks among the best, performing superbly in our brewing tests and really well in our assessments for general handling and convenience. You can program it to brew at a certain time and tailor the brew strength to your desired preferences. An indicator light lets you know when it’s time to clean it. Cuisinart, as a brand, earns high owner-satisfaction and reliability scores for its drip coffee makers.
The Braun BrewSense 12-cup Programmable KF7000BK is an all-around great coffee maker, offering strong brew performance, an easy-to-pour carafe, and plenty of convenient features. Those features include auto-shutoff, a water filter, programming, a cleaning indicator, and a permanent filter.
This Mr. Coffee machine is designed for people who like a lot of different styles of coffee and prioritize flexibility in their coffee maker. It brews both hot and cold coffee in single servings, and it comes with a reusable tumbler, lid, straw, reusable coffee filter, and dual-sided scoop. It’s worth noting that it didn’t perform particularly well in our tests. Its brew performance passed muster, but our testers found it to be fairly difficult to operate and clean. The machine also required some time to cool off between runs, though if you’re using this only for single cups of coffee at a time, that shouldn’t be an issue.
Sometimes all you need is a reliable, no-frills drip coffee machine that doesn’t break the bank, and the Mr. Coffee 14-Cup Programmable does the trick. Our testers found this machine especially easy to operate and clean, and its carafe handles admirably. Its brew performance isn’t anything special, but it’s solid, with a small-batch setting, a brew strength selector, a permanent filter, and a water filter. You can program it to brew your coffee right when you wake up, and it has a keep-warm function and auto-shutoff.
The Ninja Hot & Iced can brew full carafes of coffee and any of five single-serving brew sizes, from a small cup of coffee to a large travel mug’s worth. What makes it stand out are its brew styles. Along with a classic and rich setting, it has settings to brew over ice and to make cold brew, which isn’t technically cold brew (in the sense that it isn’t brewed cold over a long period of time), but it brews at a low temperature that gives the coffee a smoother flavor and allows it to chill faster. In our tests, its brew performance was solid, but it really stood out for its convenience—easy operation and cleanup—and its handy carafe. It also has a removable water reservoir, a cleaning indicator, and auto-shutoff.
The Ninja DualBrew Pro 12-Cup is a dual coffee maker that can brew both ground coffee and K-cup pods. That means it can brew all of 13 preset quantities of coffee, from large servings of coffee in a carafe (from coffee grounds) to individual brew sizes (from either grounds or K-cups). Our tests do show that its first-cup speed is excellent, and it’s pretty quick to brew followup cups too. It performs very well in our overall brew tests, though it’s a little inconsistent in temperature when it comes to single servings of coffee. But it offers four brew styles, including settings for brewing over ice and for brewing pods of tea, and it has a built-in milk frother (though if you want your milk frothed hot, you’ll have to heat the milk yourself first).
At just 5 inches wide, the Keurig K-Slim is an especially sleek and compact pod coffee machine that performs admirably in our tests. It brews speedily and consistently in terms of cup size, and our testers found it intuitive to operate and clean. It’s a little inconsistent in terms of temperature. But with four brew sizes, a height-adjustable drip tray, and a removable water reservoir, it’s an efficient and effective coffee maker. It was $20 less recently, but this is still better than full price if you’re looking for a single-serve coffee maker.
The Keurig K-Mini Plus has been on sale for months, but we include it because it’s only available at this price at Target. It’s more expensive everywhere else. is a great little Keurig brewer that’s ideal for small kitchens with limited counter space. In our tests, it receives strong scores for temperature and size consistency between cups, as well as how easy it is to use and clean. It features a removable reservoir, a height-adjustable drip tray, and auto-shutoff.
Multi-Cookers
Multi-cookers may have taken a back seat to air fryers in recent years, but they still certainly come in handy in the kitchen. This 10-in-1 6-quart multi-cooker from Chef iQ brings the features that people love about the appliance and updates it with Wi-Fi connectivity and a built-in scale. Our evaluators found it to be quite proficient at pressure cooking, slow cooking, and rice cooking, though sauteing and steaming—not so much.
This 8-quart Instant Pot is one of the largest pressure cookers we’ve tested. It’s also one of the best performers in our lab tests. The 1,500-watt cooker boasts excellent ratings for both pressure-cooking and slow-cooking, and it does a very good job at sautéing. It’s loaded with features, such as an air-frying mode (including a two-tier air-fry basket), a dehydrate function, a stainless steel inner pot, and a storage cover.from doc
The 6-quart 1,350-watt DeLonghi Livenza is another multi-cooker without a pressure-cook function, so fast cooking isn’t its promise. But its slow-cooking mode is top-notch, with the model earning a strong rating in that test. It also earns top-notch scores for sautéing and steaming, both tests that few models ace.
This cooker has a baking function, too, which we tested with mixed results. Our chocolate chip bars were nice and chewy on top but burnt on the bottom around the corners of the pot. Like the Cuisinart above, this cooker’s oblong shape is useful for bulky roasts and racks of ribs.
Indoor Grills
Ninja GR101 Smokeless Indoor Grill
Grill foods evenly indoors on this Ninja GR101 Smokeless Indoor Grill. It features an adjustable temperature control, interchangeable grill and griddle plates, and a removable and washable mesh lid that helps reduce smoke.
Blenders
This is the best price we’ve seen on the BN701 Professional Plus with Auto iQ. This blender earns top scores in our tests for convenience and durability, and based on CR’s surveys, owners are very satisfied with their purchase. Though it also scored well in our pureeing and ice crushing tests, it got just a middling score on blending smoothies, so if that’s the main reason you want a blender, you may want to consider another model.
Prices on the G8BCAASSPSS Personal Blender are constantly fluctuating, but this Cyber Monday deal is the lowest we’ve seen, so now may be the time to snap one up. If you’re making a smoothie or soup for one, you can rely on this model, which earned top scores in our tests for icy drinks and purees. Plus, it comes with a 20-ounce to-go cup, and its parts are dishwasher safe.
The GE G8H1AASSPSS blender is an immersion model that comes with a whisk and chopper, and it’s available now at a sweet price. It showed excellent performance in our soup puree tests, and the chopper attachment did a great job grating cheese. The whisk attachment allows you to quickly whip egg whites to stiff peaks and easily turn heavy cream into rich whipped cream.
The Ninja TWISTi High Speed Duo’s intelligent programs and five push-button functions eliminate guesswork while blending or pulsing soups, smoothies, frozen drinks, spreads, and more. The 1600-watt power blender has hybrid-edge chopping and crushing blades, a built-in twist tamper, and a removable drizzle cap that allows ingredients and ice cubes to be added while processing. If you like hearty soups and tasty smoothies, this slightly noisy blender might be for you.
The top-rated Vitamix 5200 blender aces our tests for both whipping up smoothies and soups. It does well crushing ice, too, though it earns only a middling score for its noise level. Vitamix as a brand receives top marks for predicted reliability and owner satisfaction, according to CR’s member surveys.
Like its Category 5 name suggests, this gun metal-finish blender is noisy, but its commercial-grade horsepower takes blending to the next level. In fact, the Hurricane Pro 3.5 Peak HP CBT-2000 is Cuisinart’s most powerful blender ever. With variable speed control from 1,500 rpm to a turbo-boosting 30,000-rpm maximum blending power, it also features automatic load sensing, adjustable presets, a digital display, and a memory function. It comes with an extra-large, 64-ounce BPA-free Tritan plastic jar with a soft-grip handle.
The Ninja BL770 plays two roles: as a full-sized blender, and as a personal blender with an internal spinner and cup that’s meant for small batches. It’s a very good performer either way, handily crushing ice and capably preparing smoothies and other icy beverages. It’s also very convenient—though more so when using the full-sized blending jar. In puréeing, the personal-blender version is the star, though the full-sized version still purées very well. The Ninja BL770 is noisy, however—especially when using the full-sized jar. Predicted reliability and owner satisfaction are impressive for both versions.
Cookware
This frying pan rarely goes on sale, and this deal matches the rock-bottom price from July. The 10.5-inch pan cooks evenly and its ceramic coating rates well for food release and durability. The handle is super-sturdy and cool to the touch when cooking. Though made of aluminum, the pan is induction-compatible, says the manufacturer.
The Circulon Scratch Defense A1 Series Nonstick 9-piece set receives top marks in CR’s tests for cooking evenness, holding sauces at a simmer, and nonstick food release. Plus, It had very good scores for speed of heating and durability of its traditional nonstick coating. While it’s dishwasher safe and induction cooktop-compatible, it’s only oven-safe to 400 degrees. The price for this set can vary throughout the year, and this matches the same low price we saw back in October.
This price has actually dropped $20 since Friday.
This Kenmore Arlington Nonstick Ceramic Coated cookware set trades the familiar shimmery black PTFE chemical coating (Teflon), for a ceramic nonstick coating. If you’re hesitant to switch, note that this set receives top marks in CR’s tests for food release and its nonstick surface proved quite durable in our tests. Plus it’ll work with an induction cooktop.
The 5.5-quart Le Creuset Signature has been a top performer for years. And while some newcomers perform just as well, the Le Creuset name is still highly sought after. The speed of heating is top-notch, and this Dutch oven is a cinch to clean. But if you bake a lot of bread, there are better choices. It weighs 12 pounds, less than most, and has an 8-inch cooking diameter. The loop handles are nice and wide.
At just about 5 pounds, this six-quart Dutch oven from Our Place is lightweight—but only in the best sense of the word. When it comes to performance, no other Dutch oven in our ratings matches it. It earns excellent scores from ease of cleaning to bread baking, sauce simmering, cooking evenness and speed of heating. Made of aluminum with a ceramic coating, it’s also induction-compatible, and oven-safe to 425° F.
This Leidawn 12.8-inch carbon steel wok is flat-bottomed, has a hammered texture, and comes seasoned. Like some other woks we’ve tested, the metal section of its handle is short, making it less likely to be grabbed by unwary cooks. The pan lacks an extra handle that would make it easier to move when full. But it comes with a wooden lid and a variety of stainless steel utensils.
The Kaqinu 12.6-inch carbon steel wok is flat-bottomed, has a hammered texture, and comes seasoned, with a wooden lid and a variety of stainless steel tools. It heats evenly and quickly. Cleaning, however, is a bit of a challenge. And while easy to use, the wok lacks an extra handle, making it harder to move when full.
Toaster Ovens and Toasters
If you’ve been holding off on buying a top-of-the-line Breville toaster oven like The Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro BOV900BSSUSC and missed out on the previous deals we’ve seen at this price, now’s your chance to nab this staff favorite. Its air fryer mode could eliminate your need for a separate appliance for that task. And unlike many toaster ovens, this one has an interior oven light so you can check on how that back row of cookies is progressing while they bake (a task this oven performs admirably, according to our tests. And while (confoundingly) not all toaster ovens are all that great at toasting, this one did an excellent job in our tests involving both one slice and full batches.
Although it doesn’t land in the very top tier of our ratings, the compact Panasonic FlashXpress NB-G110P toaster oven is still a great all-around choice. Our baking tests find that this 1,300-watt unit excels at toasting not only a single slice of bread but also a batch. It features a temperature range of 250° to 500° F, which is higher than most. It has two drawbacks, however: It only has one rack position, and it isn’t the easiest to use or clean. Panasonic models receive high scores for reliability in CR’s member survey, however.
If you’re looking for a basic toaster that will serve up perfectly consistent toast for breakfast in the morning (or anytime for that matter) the Hamilton Beach Gourmet 22996 2-Slice toaster may just fit the bill. This model earned top marks in our tests for one-slice and full-batch toasting, as well as color range. The downside? The toaster’s exterior and crumb tray may be tricky to clean, our testers warn. But that may not matter at a price this low.
Kitchen Tools
The Meater Plus is a darling of the barbecue world, and it’s easy to see why. For starters, it has exceptionally robust alarm settings. Not only will it ping you when your food is ready, but it will let you know if the ambient air temperature in your grill drops too low. (This comes in handy when you need to adjust your dampers or add charcoal). The app chimes when resting time is complete. You can program it to chime when food is 5 minutes from completion, too. The most appealing feature for serious cooks? The Meater Plus not only graphs your cook but allows you to rate and leave yourself notes for next time—which is particularly useful if you’re trying to replicate a perfect smoked brisket or rack of ribs.
Bell Dreams Popsicle Molds
If you’re interested in making your own popsicles, this mold might be a great option, especially for the price. Our reviewer had some trouble removing the popsicles (something a bit of wriggling should fix). This mold is made of silicone, so it’s dishwasher-safe except for the plastic handles. It also comes with a funnel for easy filling and a brush to get any stuck-on bits out before washing.
Etekcity Digital Food Scale
This square digital scale, which was our runner-up choice in CR’s evaluations, can measure up to five units. It’s made from stainless steel and has an easy-to-read LCD display.
What’s nice about the Wildone Baking Sheet with Rack is that you get two pans (and two cooling racks) for the price of one. Its performance is in line with the other uncoated sheet pans we evaluated. It earns an excellent score in our test for cooking evenness and durability and a very good score for speed of heating.
Trademark Innovations Bamboo Steamer
Bamboo steamer baskets, which are placed above pots or woks of boiling water, may be a mainstay at Chinese restaurants, but they’re far from perfect. Our evaluators found this particular model a bit precarious: “There were lots of splinters sticking out, threatening to stab me, so it required a bit of plucking up front before first use,” our evaluator said. Overall, dumplings came out evenly cooked, but some batches were wetter than expected.
Like many bamboo steamers, this one is listed as 100 percent natural, a plus for those who are trying to avoid plastic. However, this type can take longer to dry than those made of other materials. Wet wood could also be a breeding ground for mold. But for the price, it may be worth trying.
Food Storage
This set of 10 glass containers with colorful lids aces our tests for seal quality, durability, and keeping food fresh. The set comes with five large rectangular containers and five small rectangular ones, and the lids have clamps and a removable silicone gasket. The containers are safe for the oven and microwave, and they can be put in the freezer and the dishwasher.
This durable set of Bayco glass storage containers includes 12 containers and lids in a range of shapes and sizes. The seals use clamps and a removable silicone gasket. You can use the glass containers in the oven and microwave, and the containers with their lids are safe to use in the freezer and dishwasher (though Bayco notes that it’s better to wash the lids by hand to prevent deterioration).
Microwave Ovens
If you often find yourself taking something out of the freezer to make for dinner when you get home, the KitchenAid KMHS120ESS is a solid choice. It earns an excellent rating in our defrosting test, in which we defrost 1 pound of ground chuck. This KitchenAid also performs well in our heating evenness test and is extremely quiet. It has a cooking sensor and comes with a rack in case you want to cook two dishes at once. KitchenAid’s over-the-range microwaves receive a very good rating for predicted reliability and a moderate score for owner satisfaction in our latest member survey.
The top-performing LG MHEC1737F showcases stellar defrosting capabilities in our tests. It earns a middling rating for heating speed, so it may take a while to heat up food, but it delivers evenly heated mashed potatoes. The model also comes with a convection mode, which circulates heat around your food to warm it up. LG over-the-range microwaves garner a top-notch rating for reliability but only a middling rating for owner satisfaction in our member surveys.
