Lowe’s has an appealingly large stock of gas grills. “Lowe’s offers one of the broadest selections from Broil-King and Char-Broil, two brands that are exceptionally popular with CR members,” says Nish Suvarnakar, the senior market analyst who oversees grills at CR. “But don’t buy based upon those brand names alone. Use our ratings instead.”

    More on Grills

If Lowe’s is your go-to, this guide will help you narrow your selection. We’ll even highlight the worst grill in our tests that you can find at Lowe’s (and why to avoid it).

Consumer Reports tests dozens of new gas grill models every year. If you’re unsure which size you need or which features to look for, start with our grill buying guide. CR members can also jump right into our complete gas grill ratings to compare models.

Best Small Gas Grills at Lowe's

Permasteel and Weber each make good small gas grills that you can find at Lowe’s.

Best Midsized Gas Grills at Lowe's

Weber comes through again by making two of the best midsized gas grills at Lowe’s, with an appearance from Monument Grills.

Best Large Gas Grills at Lowe's

In addition to Weber, Monument Grills and Napoleon offer large gas grills that perform well in our ratings and are stocked at Lowe’s.

    Lowest-Scoring Grill at Lowe's

Though the small Char-Broil Patio Bistro 15601900 is reasonably priced, it performs poorly in a variety of our tests, from how evenly it heats the grill surface at the highest and lowest settings to how wide a temperature range the grill offers. We recommend looking at the other models on this list available at Lowe’s. Here are some takeaways from our testing:

    • Its evenness performance, temperature range, and convenience scores are less than satisfactory.
    • Its sturdiness is just passable.
    • It flares up with foods high in fat content.
    • Although its predicted reliability is satisfactory, its owner satisfaction score is mediocre.

    Grill Shopping Tips

To make sure we test the same models that are available to you, Consumer Reports’ secret shoppers purchase each grill either in a store or online. Here’s their checklist for making your grill shopping a smooth experience.

    • Check inventory online before you shop. The grill you want might be at a store near you. If it’s not, Lowe’s will ship it free of charge to a store where you can pick it up, potentially saving you an extra trip.
    • Check the grill’s dimensions. Make sure it will fit in the space that you have in mind. You can check the dimensions on Lowe’s website or on the grill’s summary page in our gas grill ratings. Lowe’s offers free assembly of full-sized grills if you buy in the store, and says its stores usually have assembled grills on hand.
    • Check your cargo space. Lowe’s will deliver an unassembled grill to your home free of charge if it costs $399 or more. Otherwise, you’ll have to pay a delivery fee or you can haul the grill home yourself. (If your car isn’t big enough, you can rent a truck at some store locations for $19 for the first 90 minutes.)
    • Check the box the grill came in. If you ordered your grill online or picked up one that hasn’t been put together, make sure that all the parts are included and that nothing is broken or damaged before you start assembling the grill.

If something is missing, call Lowe’s customer service (800-445-6937). If the wait for a replacement is too long, you might try calling the manufacturer directly and pleading your case to get it sooner.
