Sound quality: Sony's ULT FIELD 1 had acceptable overall sound quality - this model reproduces music and dialog reasonably well despite the obvious shortcomings in its sound. The bass has good impact but is a bit subdued, and deep bass is lacking. Midrange is fairly even but is somewhat grainy and congested, and a touch hazy. Treble is fairly extended but is a bit sizzly and smeared. Does a so-so job of recovering room ambience, sounds somewhat congested. This speaker is monophonic. Individual instruments and voices are identifiable but have a two dimensional quality. Volume:
Provides a decent volume level in a medium sized room. When two units are combined to form a stereo pair the sound field can be made wider depending on placement.
