Sound quality: Sony's SRS-XB100 had lower range overall sound quality - this model has sonic shortcomings that leave a lot to be desired when listening to music but don't rule it out for dialog. Bass has little impact, is subdued, and deep bass is lacking. Midrange is somewhat grainy, a bit hazy and etched, and the lower midrange is a bit subdued. Treble is fairly extended, but is somewhat prominent, sizzly, dry, and a bit smeared. Does a so-so job of recovering room ambience and sounds a bit congested and constricted. It's a monophonic speaker. When two units are used to form a stereo pair the sound stage can be made wider depending on placement. Provides a decent volume level in a small sized room, and is best suited for near field listening.
