Apple Watch Series 10 Gets You More Screen and Quick-Charge Capability

It’s everything you love from Apple’s standard smartwatch line, just a bit better—with more display space, a thinner, lighter profile, and new sleep apnea detection

I’m already a big Apple Watch fan. I’ve worn my trusty Watch SE for years and still love it, even if I’ve never been able to get the charging schedule quite right for consistent sleep tracking.

I wouldn’t mind a slightly bigger display, but I’ve never wanted a watch that’s too bulky, too pricey, or jam-packed with features I’ll never use, so I’ve stuck with the budget-friendly SE model.

But after spending a few days with the new Apple Watch Series 10, I may just be convinced to upgrade. The model has a larger display, while also managing to be slimmer, featherlight, and great-looking. It charges quite a bit faster, too, which could be a game changer for those who enjoy tracking their sleep.

    More on Smartwatches

The watch has not been dramatically redesigned, but it has received the sort of subtle improvements that matter with a device you plan to wear all day, every day. The list includes a new titanium option for the case, the ability to play music on the built-in speaker, and sleep apnea detection, a health feature that is also available for the Series 9 and Ultra 2 models.

Of course, if your current smartwatch still performs well, there’s no need to run out and upgrade, especially if you’re using last year’s Series 9. (The Series 10 and 9 are virtually tied in our smartwatch ratings, available to CR members.) But if you’re thinking about buying your first Apple Watch or if the one you own is, like my slow-to-charge Apple Watch SE, nearing time for an upgrade, this might be your moment.

The Watch 10 sells for $399, or $499 if you want cellular connectivity. It’s available in two sizes (42mm and 46mm), two finishes (aluminum and titanium), and a number of colors.

Consumer Reports purchased a couple of models straight from the store—same as you—for official testing in our labs, where we evaluate smartwatches on metrics like scratch-resistance and the accuracy of the heart rate monitor. (CR members can explore full test results for dozens of smartwatch models in our ratings.)
