    Detailed Test Results

    Design and features:
This Bluetooth wireless noise canceling home/studio-style over-ear model provides fair sound and excellent active noise reduction. Its closed design and electronic noise canceling feature reduce both outside noise and sound leaking out into your environment. The headphones work with or without the noise canceling feature being turned on. You can use the noise-canceling feature without listening to music, and the audio cable can be detached to get it out of the way when the headphones are being used for noise reduction only. The headphones have low sensitivity when powered regardless of whether the noise cancellation feature turned on or off or the ambient sound monitoring feature is turned on, so while they can provide satisfying volume levels when used with home audio equipment and higher powered portable audio devices, they may not be a good match for lower-powered portables. When powered off, they have medium high sensitivity, so they can provide satisfying volume levels when used with home audio equipment and lower-powered portable audio devices. Noise cancelling can be adjusted in the Soundcore app on a scale of 1-5. The headphone noise cancellation control default setting switches between noise cancellation on and ambient mode, but can be customized using the app to switch between any two or three settings (noise cancellation on, noise cancellation off, and ambient sound monitoring mode). The app can be used to switch ambient monitoring between full audio range ambient monitoring or vocal range only ambient monitoring. Any of the noise cancelling or ambient monitoring settings can also be selected using the app. Has button controls for music player transport, call connect/disconnect, Bluetooth volume control, and noise canceling. Has quick charge feature: 5 minute charge will provide 4 hours of playtime. Free Soundcore app for Android and Apple mobile devices provides controls for noise canceling customization, button control customization, and tonal balance; users can also create a personalized hearing profiles. The Space Q45 comes with detachable 50-inch long standard audio cable, USB-A to USB-C connector charging cable, carrying case, Quick Start guide, Warranty.

    Sound quality:
We found the Space Q45 delivers sound quality that falls in the fair range - meaning that it has sonic shortcomings that leave a lot to be desired when listening to music but don't rule it out for dialog and communication and excellent active noise reduction. With the noise cancelling mode engaged and the soundcore app equalizer set to soundcore Signature (default) the bass (as in bass drums, bass guitars, stand-up bass, etc.) has good impact and goes deep, but is somewhat prominent and boomy. The midrange (voices, guitars, horns, etc.) is a bit thin, somewhat nasal, hazy and grainy, a bit congested (think sonic traffic jam), has a strong plastic resonance, and can be somewhat harsh. The treble (cymbals, the upper range of violins, etc.) is extended but is somewhat prominent, sizzly (sounds that should have a delicate shimmer have a sound reminiscent of bacon frying), strident, and dry, and a bit smeared. While the sound has a good sense of liveliness, it is somewhat closed (sound-wise it's fairly obvious you have something plugging your ears) and does a decent job of recovering room ambience. Mixed character - warmish bass with coolish midrange and treble. The overall sound can be summarized as somewhat bassy with a thin plasticky midrange and somewhat prominent, strident treble. The soundcore app tonal presets and EQ adjustments have a noticeable effect on the sound. Noise Canceling: Excellent noise reduction across the entire frequency range with the low frequencies reduced the most. Orientation changes the noise reduction characteristic - when the noise is coming from the rear a bit less high-frequency noise can be heard relative to when it's coming from the front or side. A faint rushing sound can be heard in quiet environments when there is no audio program to drown it out.

    Comfort and Fit:

We found that these headphones produce a sense of moderate pressure around the ears.

As typical of over-ear models the ear pads might feel hot and/or sticky after prolonged use.

    Large

Users with larger heads might find that the headband does not have enough adjustment range to allow the ear cups to rest properly over the ears and/or that the headband presses uncomfortably on the top of the head.

Users with larger ears might find that the over-the-ear fit of the ear pads feel cramped, or that the ear pads sit on, rather than around their ears; in that case the less-than-ideal fit around the ears might interfere with the ear pad seal and reduce the bass response and/or noise reduction capabilities of the headphone.

    Medium

Users with medium sized heads may find getting a good ear pad seal can be finicky; when they don't get a good ear pad seal the bass may become a bit subdued and the less-than-ideal ear pad seal may reduce the noise reduction capabilities of the headphone.

    Stabaility

Some users may find that when they lean far forward the headphones feel unstable and shift forward.

    Other noise

When wearing this model while walking the muffled vibrations from each foot step can be heard slightly through the headphones regardless of whether or not the headphones are in noise cancelling mode.

When the audio cord is used the sound of it rubbing on clothing may be faintly heard through the headphones.
