Sound quality:We found the LIFE U2i delivers sound quality that falls in the good range - it reproduces music and voice reasonably well despite the obvious shortcomings in its sound. With the EQ mode set to Normal, bass (as in bass drums, bass guitars, stand-up bass, etc.) has good impact and goes deep, but is somewhat prominent and boomy, and with some program material a bit to significantly distorted (warbles - sounds like it is underwater). The midrange (voices, guitars, horns, etc.) is somewhat thin and grainy, a bit congested (think sonic traffic jam), etched (a bit more sharply outlined then it should be), and sibilant. The treble (cymbals, the upper range of violins, etc.) is extended, but prominent, smeared, and sizzly (sounds that should have a delicate shimmer have a sound reminiscent of bacon frying). The sound also has a good sense of liveliness and is somewhat open--sound-wise it almost seems like you don't have anything plugging up your ears but only does a so-so job of recovering room ambience. Mixed character - warm bass with cool midrange and treble. The overall sound can be summarized as somewhat bassy, thin and grainy.
Comfort and Fit:As typical of in-ear models they produce a sense of pressure in the ear canal opening that might be uncomfortable for some.
Some users may find it takes a bit of fumbling with the earphones when inserting them to get a good ear canal seal; if the ear canals are not sealed properly the sound quality may be affected.
Small
Users with small earbowls might find that the earphone body feels a bit bulky in their earbowl, but that they will stay in place during casual use and are stable during fairly vigorous head movement.
Medium/Larger
Users with medium and larger sized ear bowls will probably find that this model stays in place with no problems for casual use and that they are stable during fairly vigorous head movement.
The collar is not generally noticeable for users with medium sized and smaller necks and is very convenient unless it interferes with clothing or hair.
Users with larger necks may find the collar feels restrictive.
When earphones are not in the ears they clip together magnetically, dangle from the collar, and rest on the chest where they will swing out away from the body when leaning over; this can be bothersome or expose the earphones to damage.
Other noise
The sound of the earphone connecting cable rubbing on clothing may be heard through the earphones.
