Design and features:This Bluetooth wireless noise canceling home/studio-style over-ear model provides very good sound and excellent active noise reduction. Its closed design and electronic noise canceling feature reduce both outside noise and sound leaking out into your environment. The headphones work with or without the noise canceling feature being turned on. You can use the noise-canceling feature without listening to music, and the audio cable can be detached to get it out of the way when the headphones are being used for noise reduction only. The headphones have medium sensitivity regardless of whether they are powered and in noise cancelling or in ambient monitoring mode, or passive (power off mode), so they can provide satisfying volume levels when used with home audio equipment and all but the lowest-powered portable audio devices. The MOMENTUM 4 has a volume control plus an integrated microphone and player function controls. The headphone noise cancellation control setting switches between ANC on, ANC off, and ambient sound monitor (Pass-through) modes by touch control on right ear cup; these settings can be customized using the Sennheiser Smart Control app. Has adaptive ANC that automatically adapts level of noise cancelling depending on your surrounding sounds. Has Wind Noise Reduction that can be turned on/off, manually adjusted or adjusted to automatically adjust reduction to minimize wind or movement noise. Has touch controls for music player transport, call connect/disconnect, ambient noise/noise cancellation/ on/off, digital voice assistant activation, and Bluetooth volume control. Headphones can pause audio when removed from the ears and resume audio when placed back in the ears. Has power on/off, Bluetooth pairing, battery status, and other voice announcements. Supports Apple Siri and Google Assistant digital voice assistants when it is used with Bluetooth devices that have those capabilities. Has quick charge feature: 5 min of charging will provide 4 hours of playtime. Bluetooth connected Apple mobile devices using iOS Version 5 and above will show the battery level. Sennheiser Smart Control app download for Apple or Android mobile devices can be used to change the sound of the earphones, show battery level, change various settings such as deactivating the auto pause feature, choose between pausing and not pausing audio when the monitor function is activated, choose between voice announcements and alert tones, and update the earphone's firmware. Sound quality:We found the MOMENTUM 4 delivers sound quality that falls in the very good range - it reproduces music and voice very well although it does have some noticeable sonic quirks and excellent active noise reduction. With the Sennheiser Smart Control app EQ set as flat and the noise canceling mode is engaged and set to max the bass (as in bass drums, bass guitars, stand-up bass, etc.) has good impact and goes deep, but is somewhat prominent and boomy. The midrange (voices, guitars, horns, etc.) is fairly even but is a bit plasticky and etched (a bit more sharply outlined then it should be), and somewhat grainy, hazy and congested (think sonic traffic jam). The treble (cymbals, the upper range of violins, etc.) is extended, but a bit prominent and sizzly (sounds that should have a delicate shimmer have a sound reminiscent of bacon frying) and a touch smeared. The sound also has a good sense of liveliness and is somewhat open--sound-wise it almost seems like you don't have anything plugging up your ears and does a decent job of recovering room ambience. Mixed character - warmish bass with neutral midrange and coolish treble. The overall sound can be summarized as somewhat bassy and grainy and a bit sizzly. The Sennheiser Smart Control app EQ settings and presets had a noticeable effect on the sound. Noise Canceling: Excellent noise reduction across the entire frequency range with the low frequencies reduced the most. Orientation changes the noise reduction characteristic - when the noise is coming from the front a bit more high-frequency noise can be heard relative to when it's coming from the side or rear. A very faint rushing sound can be heard in quiet environments when there is no audio program to drown it out.
Comfort and Fit:We found that these headphones produce a sense of light to moderate pressure on the ears.
As typical of on-ear models the ear pads might feel hot and/or sticky after prolonged use.
Large
Users with larger heads might find that the headband does not have enough adjustment range to allow the ear cups rest properly over the ears and/or that the headband presses uncomfortably on the top of the head.
Users with larger ears might find that the over-the-ear fit of the ear pads feel cramped, or that the ear pads sit on, rather than around their ears; in that case the less-than-ideal fit around the ears might interfere with the ear pad seal and reduce the noise reduction capabilities of the headphone.
Incidental contact with the touch controls on the right ear cup can cause unintentional playing, pausing, or track skipping.
Stability
Some users may find that when they lean far forward the headphones feel unstable and shift forward.
Other noise
When wearing this model while walking the muffled vibrations from each foot step can be heard slightly through the headphones regardless of whether or not the headphones are in noise cancelling mode.
When the audio cord is used the sound of it rubbing on clothing may be faintly heard through the headphones.
