Sound quality:We found the Ear (open) delivers sound quality that falls in the very good range - it reproduces music and voice very well although it does have some noticeable sonic quirks.
Audio Details: With the Nothing X Equalizer set to Simple and Balanced (as received state of the earphone) the
bass (as in bass drums, bass guitars, stand-up bass, etc.) has good impact and goes fairly deep but is a bit prominent and boomy.
The
midrange (voices, guitars, horns, etc.) is somewhat grainy and a bit hazy and congested (think sonic traffic jam) and a touch sibilant and thin.
Depending on fit the
treble (cymbals, the upper range of violins, etc.) can be extended but is somewhat sizzly (sounds that should have a delicate shimmer have a sound reminiscent of bacon frying), smeared and a bit prominent.
It has an open sound, but that's because it's not covering your ears, not because the audio sounds open and does a decent job of recovering room ambience in the mid- to upper midrange, but is so-so elsewhere. Good dynamics. Mixed character warmish bass and coolish midrange and treble.
The overall sound can be summarized as somewhat grainy, a bit bassy and sizzly. The tone settings of the app do have a noticeable effect on the sound of these earphones.
Comfort and Fit:There is a sense of light pressure on the ears.
Small
Users with small sized ears may find that ear hooks feel a bit bulky behind the ears, that this model stays in place with no problems for casual use, and are stable during fairly vigorous head movement.
