Design and features:This Bluetooth wireless noise canceling home/studio-style over-ear model provides very good sound and excellent active noise reduction. Its closed design and electronic noise canceling feature reduce both outside noise and sound leaking out into your environment. The headphones work with or without the noise canceling feature being turned on. You can use the noise-canceling feature without listening to music, and the audio cable can be detached to get it out of the way when the headphones are being used for noise reduction only. The headphones have low sensitivity when powered regardless of whether the noise cancellation feature turned on or off or the ambient sound monitoring feature is turned on, so while they can provide satisfying volume levels when used with home audio equipment and higher powered portable audio devices, they may not be a good match for lower-powered portables. The PX7 S2 has a volume control plus an integrated microphone and player function controls. Additional features include - a detachable audio cable. Can be connected to a computer via the USB charging/data cable to play audio files stored on the computer. Has built-in sensors that automatically pauses audio playback when at least one ear cup is removed from an ear; sensors also place the headphones in standby mode or wakes them from standby when they are removed from or placed on the head respectively (these features can be adjusted and turned off using the Bowers & Wilkins Headphone app). Ear cups swivel to flat for ease of storage/transport. The headphone noise cancellation control setting switches between ANC on, ANC off, and ambient sound monitor (Pass-through) modes by Button control on left ear cup; these settings can also be selected using the Bowers & Wilkins Music app. Has music player transport, call connect/disconnect, and Bluetooth volume button controls. Has button control on left ear cup set by default to toggle between ANC on, ambient sound monitoring, and ANC off. Has power on/off and Bluetooth pairing alert tones. Has pairing memory for up to 8 Bluetooth devices, allows simultaneous connection of two Bluetooth devices (to switch between connected devices stop sound on device and start sound on the other). Has automatic pause feature that pauses audio when headphones are removed from the ears and resumes audio when placed back on the ears; can be turned on/off in free Bowers & Wilkins Music app. Has quick charge feature: 15 min of charging will provide 7 hrs. of playtime. Supports compatible digital voice assistants when used with Bluetooth connected devices that have those features. Bowers & Wilkins Music app download for Apple and Android mobile devices can be used to show battery level, adjust and turn on/off ANC and ambient sound modes, adjust the headphone's tonal balance, customize the function of the left ear cup button control (ANC/ambient sound monitoring selection or digital voice assistant activation), and update the headphones firmware. Bluetooth connected Apple mobile devices using iOS Version 5 and above will show the battery level. The PX7 S2 comes with detachable 46-inch long USB-C to stereo mini-plug audio cable, USB-C charging/data cable, Carrying case, Quick start, Warranty card.
Sound quality:We found the PX7 S2 delivers sound quality that falls in the very good range - it reproduces music and voice very well although it does have some noticeable sonic quirks and excellent active noise reduction. With the noise cancelling mode engaged and the bass and treble controls set to "0" in the Bowers & Wilkins Music app (default mode) the bass (as in bass drums, bass guitars, stand-up bass, etc.) has good impact and goes deep but is a bit prominent and boomy. The midrange (voices, guitars, horns, etc.) is even, but a bit grainy, etched (a bit more sharply outlined then it should be), hazy, and congested (think sonic traffic jam). The treble (cymbals, the upper range of violins, etc.) is extended, but is a bit prominent and smeared. The sound also has a decent sense of liveliness and is somewhat open--sound-wise it almost seems like you don't have anything plugging up your ears and does a decent job of recovering room ambience. Warmish character. The overall sound can best be summarized as bit bassy, grainy, and hazy. The bass and treble settings of the app do have a noticeable effect on the sound of these headphones. Noise Canceling: Excellent noise reduction across the entire frequency range with the low frequencies reduced the most. A faint rushing sound can be heard in quiet environments when there is no audio program to drown it out.
Comfort and Fit:We found that these headphones produce a sense of light to moderate pressure around the ears.
As typical of on-ear models the pads might feel hot and/or sticky after prolonged use.
Large
Users with larger ears might find that the ear pads sit on, rather than around their ears; in that case the less-than-ideal fit around the ears might interfere with the ear pad seal and reduce the noise reduction capabilities of the headphone.
Stability
Some users might find that the headphones feel unstable and shift forward a bit.
Other noise
When wearing this model while walking the vibrations from each foot step can be heard faintly through the headphones.
When the audio cable is connected the sound of it rubbing on clothing may be heard through the headphones.
