Design and features:The open-air design of this home/studio-style over-ear model doesn't muffle outside sounds, so you'll be able to hear external sounds, such as a door bell or car horn, when you are wearing the headphones. The headphones have fairly low sensitivity, so while they can provide satisfying volume levels when used with home audio equipment and higher-powered portable audio devices, they may not be a good match for lower-powered portable players. This model comes with an attractive, though fairly large, storage case, plus a mini-plug-to-1/4-inch-plug adapter, spare ear cushions, and a spare detachable audio cable.
Sound quality: We found the SRH1440 delivers excellent overall sound with a neutral character. The slightly recessed bass has good definition, though it lacks a bit of impact. Midrange is clear, though it lacks some body, and the upper midrange and lower treble are somewhat pronounced. Treble is extended, but a bit aggressive. These headphones are open sounding with good dynamics.
Comfort: Despite their larger size, we found these headphones to be generally comfortable, although there is a slight sense of pressure around the ears. The velour ear pads might feel hot after prolonged use.
