Quietest Compact SUVs From Consumer Reports' Tests

These well-rounded models are easy on your ears

It can get quite loud inside a compact SUV’s cabin. The boxy shape can create plenty of wind noise, and an SUV’s raised height lets a lot of road noise bounce off its underside. Add in a small four-cylinder engine that’s asked to work hard and you have a recipe for an unpleasant experience inside that small cabin.

Plenty of SUVs manage the noise they make. But it takes more than a short test drive down the roads near the dealership to know whether the car you’re considering will be pleasant in all the different conditions you’ll encounter.

That’s where Consumer Reports’ car experts come in. We evaluate interior noise as part of more than 50 objective and subjective tests we administer to every car we purchase. We listen to the wind, road, engine, and tire noises that often penetrate the interior.

    More on Cars

We’ve identified the 10 quietest compact SUVs in order of their results in our interior noise tests. Unless otherwise noted, automatic emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian detection, AEB that operates at highway speeds, blind spot warning (BSW), and rear cross traffic warning (RCTW) are standard equipment.

Some of these models carry our Green Choice designation, which highlights the vehicles with the cleanest emissions.
