2025 Model Redesign Year

The 2 Series Gran Coupe got an extensive freshening for 2025. It gained power with a 241-hp 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine and a new seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. This powertrain feels lively and polished. Handling is nimble and the ride is firm yet composed. The sporty M235 is stiffer and comes with a 312-hp engine. The Gran Coupe should not be confused with the 2 Series coupe, which is a genuine sports car.

The Gran Coupe is based on a front-wheel-drive chassis shared with the X1, X2, and Mini Countryman. It may look like a hatchback but is actually a sedan. The low stance compromises access. Rear visibility is limited and the back seat is very cramped. The iDrive 9 infotainment system moved climate control and media buttons into the touchscreen.

Don't be misled into thinking the new for 2020 2 Series Gran Coupe is simply a four-door version of the 2 Series. The Gran Coupe rides on a completely different, less performance-oriented platform that it shares with the X1 and X2 small SUVs. Nonetheless, it packs a healthy level of BMW DNA and will put a grin on a driver’s face when the road gets twisty. Its front-drive-based platform only shows its limitations when the car is pushed to the limits. The standard 228-hp drivetrain delivers eager power through a responsive transmission. Ride comfort skews firm.

The rear seat is cramped and access is awkward. All-wheel drive is standard. Forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, and blind spot warning all come standard.
