6 Best Overnight Diapers From Our Tests

Diapers for nighttime can help babies sleep longer, so the 10 products we tested had to do the heavy-duty work of absorbing very quickly and holding tight to liquid

It’s not easy finding the perfect overnight diaper. You want a diaper that’s very absorbent to ensure your baby has more restful sleep. You also want something that’s good at keeping moisture away from your baby’s skin so they stay comfortable and are less likely to develop diaper rash.

To determine the best overnight diapers, we conducted tests using 10 of the most popular ones, including Hello Bello, Huggies, Luvs, Parent’s Choice, and Up & Up. In our absorption speed and dryness tests, we gauged how fast they absorbed liquids and how well they kept moisture away from a baby’s bottom.

The two test scores were used to determine the Overall Score you see in our ratings.

After our test results and calculations, here are the six most effective diapers we recommend.

    Other Diapers We Tested

The diapers that didn’t make the cut for our recommendations are Pampers Swaddlers Overnights, Millie Moon Disposable Overnight Diapers, Huggies Overnights, and Sposie Overnight Diaper Booster Pads. Most did decently in our dryness tests, so if you use them, your baby’s butt is likely to stay dry once they’ve absorbed all the liquid.

But many of these weren’t as stellar at absorption speed, which made them more susceptible to leaks. In particular, the Sposie Overnight Diaper Booster Pads, which you insert into any diaper to help boost its absorption performance, were the slowest to absorb liquid of all the diapers we tested.

    How CR Tests Overnight Diapers

We did these two tests on size 4 diapers from 10 popular brands.

Absorption speed: We used four batches of saline totaling 140 milliliters, with each timed 5 minutes apart, and measured how long it took for the diapers to absorb the last one. The speedier the absorption rate, the shorter the amount of time your baby’s skin will be exposed to urine.

Dryness: We looked at whether a diaper is capable of retaining liquid after it has absorbed it. To do this, we placed a folded paper towel under a weight on top of the diaper 5 minutes after the last saline batch. We then weighed the paper towel to see how much moisture the diaper released.
