More Than 1.1 Million Samsung Electric Slide-in Ranges Recalled Due to Fire Hazard
Front-mounted knobs can be turned on accidentally by a person or a pet
Samsung has recalled about 1,120,905 electric slide-in ranges with front-mounted controls. The stoves, which were sold as far back as 2013 and as recently as this month, can accidentally turn on if anyone—including a child or even a pet—bumps into a knob.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, Samsung has received more than 300 reports of unintentional activation on these ranges. The products have been involved in more than 250 fires, along with a number of injuries, and the deaths of several pets.
There are currently 74 models in our electric smoothtop range ratings, including 12 Samsung ranges. Seven of these are subject to the recall: Samsung NE63T8751SG, Samsung Bespoke NE63BB871112, Samsung NE63T8311SS, Samsung NE63T8511SS, Samsung Bespoke NE63BB851112, Samsung NE63T8711SS, and Samsung NE63T8111SS.
Consumer Reports tested five more of the recalled models, but those ranges are no longer in our ratings. (When a product is discontinued by the manufacturer and no longer available for purchase, we remove that item from our ratings.)
Details of the Samsung Range Recall
The recall: About 1,120,905 Samsung electric slide-in ranges with front-mounted controls. The recall applies to 30 different model numbers; see the full list.
The risk: Knobs on the front of the range can be activated accidentally, potentially turning on heating elements on the cooktop, which could pose a fire hazard.
Incidents/injuries: Samsung has received more than 300 reports of unintentional activation on these ranges. The products have also been involved in more than 250 fires, 18 of which caused extensive property damage. Approximately 40 injuries have been reported, eight of which required medical attention. Seven fires included reports of pet deaths.
Where and when sold: Best Buy, Costco, Home Depot, Lowe’s, and other appliance stores nationwide, and at Samsung.com. Depending upon the model, the ranges were sold from May 2013 through August 2024 for $1,250 to $3,050.
The remedy: Contact Samsung to receive a free set of knob locks or covers compatible with your model of electric slide-in range.
You should stop using a recalled range without knob locks or covers, and keep children and pets away from the knobs. For an added layer of safety, check the range knobs to ensure they are off before leaving home or going to bed, and don’t leave objects on the range when the range is not in use.
If you have a WiFi-enabled range, you can enable the “Cooktop On” notification on the Samsung SmartThings app to receive alerts on your smartphone when a cooktop burner is turned on.
