About 560,000 GoveeLife and Govee Smart electric space heaters have been recalled because they can overheat, posing fire and burn risks.

The number includes 512,500 heaters sold in the U.S. and 48,600 sold in Canada. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, GoveeLife and Govee have received more than 100 reports of overheating, including seven fires and one minor burn injury.

The CPSC says tests revealed that the recalled space heaters did not comply with the voluntary industry safety standard ANSI/UL 1278, posing an overheating and fire risk from wireless control features.

    MORE ON SPACE HEATERS

“This manufacturer put hundreds of thousands of people at risk of fires in their homes because it failed to meet broadly accepted, sensible voluntary standards for space heaters,” says Gabe Knight, senior policy analyst at Consumer Reports. “Due to the serious risk of fire, space heaters are the type of product that ought to have mandatory standards to prevent this kind of corporate irresponsibility. In the meantime, everyone who owns or buys a space heater should check to make sure it meets applicable UL safety standards.”

The recall includes six models. The Govee H7130, which CR tested, ranks in the middle of our small space heater ratings. This model did an excellent job of warming a room but got dinged for mediocre spot heating and its score in our hot surface test, which rates the risk of burn from touching the heat-exhaust outlet. It rated highly in our fire safety score for potential ignition of nearby flammable materials like drapes or clothing.

The CPSC advises consumers to immediately stop using a recalled smart electric space heater and to contact the manufacturer for a refund (see details below).

Details of the Govee Space Heater Recall

The recall: Affects GoveeLife and Govee smart electric space heaters with model numbers H7130 (including the H7130101 variation), H7131, H7132, H7133, H7134, and H7135. The space heaters were sold in black or white with “GoveeLife” or “Govee” printed on the front or side of each unit. The model numbers are on the manufacturer’s label on the underside of each unit. The models range from 9 inches to 26 inches high.

The risk: The affected space heaters can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers.

Where and when sold: The recalled space heaters were sold at Amazon.com, Govee’s U.S. website, via the Govee Home App, and on the TikTok Shop from September 2021 through September 2024. The space heaters cost $30 to $150.

Incidents and injuries: GoveeLife and Govee have received 113 reports of overheating, including seven reports of fires and one report of a minor burn injury.

The remedy: The CPSC says consumers should immediately stop using the recalled space heaters and contact the brands for a refund. Consumers should unplug the heater, cut the power cord, and send an image of the destroyed heater, manufacturer’s label, and serial number to the GoveeLife recall page. Consumers can also contact GoveeLife or Govee at 833-772-5360 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday.

Consumers who provide their original order number will get a refund of the full purchase price (the order number can be found in online purchase records). Consumers who don’t have the original order number will receive a refund ranging from $31.80 to $106.63, depending on the model purchased. Owners can contact [email protected] for help finding the order number.
