A low hum from your air fryer might not be a big annoyance when you’re whipping up some fries, but it’s a different story if you’re cooking a main dish for an hour.

Countertop air fryers can get quite loud. According to our tests, the amount of noise they emit can range from the hum of a quiet office to the sound of a conversation at a neighboring table in a restaurant. Some air fryers also use analog timers whose ticking might be a nuisance, too. All of this noise can distract from the sounds you want to hear while you cook in the kitchen.

To find the quietest air fryers, we listen to them in our labs. We place each one on the same surface and measure its sound multiple times during operation, noting the peaks.

Below, we’ve highlighted the quietest air fryers we’ve tested. For more on how we test air fryers, check our buying guide. And for our take on all of the air fryers we’ve tested, see our ratings.

We also have suggestions on using an air fryer to revive leftovers, choosing air-fryer accessories, and how to use your air fryer as safely as possible.

These air fryers, listed below in alphabetical order, all earn top-notch ratings in our noise tests.

The Chefman RJ38-2T is a lightweight and compact air fryer with a footprint of under a square foot, meaning it’s easy to store in a cabinet and take out when needed. Its measured 1.8-quart capacity makes it good for side dishes and snacks, not necessarily main dishes like some of the larger air fryers on this list. Not only is it quiet, but our testers find it a breeze to clean.

Solo dwellers or anybody who’s a tad tight on counter space—the Cosori Lite CAF-LI211 is for you. This small air fryer with a measured capacity of 1.7 quarts has programmed settings, a dishwasher-safe basket, and a digital display. With a footprint of just 9x10 inches, it comes in a small, 5-pound package—and at a fairly small price. Not only is this model quiet, but it also receives high marks for being easy to use and clean. The Cosori Lite comes with a two-year warranty.

The Dash Tasti-Crisp DCAF260 is a top scorer in our air fryer ratings. It has a measured capacity of 2.4 quarts and an overall size of less than a cubic foot, meaning this 1,000-watt model is also one of the most compact in our ratings. It comes with a digital display and three presets so you can save your go-to cooking settings. Plus, it has simple-to-use controls and is easy to clean.

Adorned with a floral design, the Pioneer Woman PW6136170192004 fits right in with the brand’s collection of colorful goods. It’s one of the only models in our ratings with a measured capacity larger than its claimed capacity (6.7 quarts compared with 6.3 quarts). It’s also a rare model with a built-in timer and cord storage. This air fryer is easy to clean and receives pretty high marks for its easy-to-use controls, eight programmed settings, digital display, and dishwasher-friendly basket. Plus, it has a generous two-year warranty.

With its cream and navy blue colorway with gold accents, this Tabitha Brown for Target 8 Qt. Digital air fryer is a stylish addition to your kitchen. And it’s not just easy on the eyes: This air fryer aces our test for ease of cleaning, offers six programmed settings, and has a viewing window that allows you to check in on cooking progress. However, we measured this model’s basket volume to be 7 quarts, not the claimed 8 quarts.

As its name might imply, the Typhur Dome AF03 air fryer is a big one, with a capacity of 5 quarts, according to our measurements. And with a 15x21-inch footprint, you should easily be able to air-fry some long asparagus spears next to a few fish fillets for dinner. It has self-cleaning and dehydrating modes, plus WiFi connectivity. We also found this model to be a breeze to clean, earning a top score in that evaluation.
