Lowest-Scoring Grill at Walmart
The small Royal Gourmet GA5404H performs adequately in a variety of tests but gets a failing grade for how evenly the heat spreads across the grill’s surface at the highest and lowest setting, plus the evenness of the grill’s surface after 10 minutes of preheating. We recommend looking at other models on this list available. Here are some takeaways from our testing:
- Its evenness performance is terrible.
- Its temperature range, preheat performance, and indirect cooking scores are middling, but passable.
- Although this grill is less likely to flare up with high-fat-content foods, a full grill may still flare up.
- We don’t have scores for its predicted reliability or owner satisfaction.
Grill Shopping Tips
To make sure we test the same grills that are available to you, Consumer Reports’ secret shoppers purchase each one either in a store or online. Here’s their checklist for making your grill shopping a smooth experience:
- Check inventory online before you head to a store. The grill you want might be in a store near you. If not, Walmart will ship it to a store where you can pick it up and you won’t have to pay a shipping fee.
- Check the grill’s dimensions. You can do this on Walmart’s site or on the grill’s summary page in our gas grill ratings.
- Check your cargo space. Walmart offers free assembly but doesn’t deliver assembled grills to residences. You’ll need an SUV or a pickup to haul an assembled grill home. Walmart doesn’t rent trucks.
- Check the box before you start assembling the grill. Make sure all the parts are included and aren’t broken or damaged. If something is missing, call Walmart’s customer service (800-925-6278). If the wait for a replacement part is too long, call the manufacturer directly to see whether it can be shipped sooner.
