You can find some terrific gas grills at your local hardware store and an especially dizzying array of options at Home Depot and Lowe’s. Then there’s Walmart and other discount stores, which ring up about a quarter of all grill sales. Walmart’s broad gas grill offerings span its walk-in and online stores, with dozens of free delivery options.

    More on Grills

“Walmart stores usually offer gas grills that are around $100 to $400, from brands such as Cuisinart and Expert Grill,” says Nish Suvarnakar, the senior market analyst who oversees grills at Consumer Reports. “Online, you have a lot more to choose from, including Weber, with prices all the way up to $2,000.”

If Walmart is your go-to store, this guide will help you narrow your selection. We even highlight the worst gas grill we’ve tested that’s sold at Walmart (and why you should avoid it).

Consumer Reports tests dozens of new gas grill models every year. If you’re unsure which size you need or which features to look for, start with our grill buying guide. CR members can also jump right to our complete gas grill ratings to compare models.

Best Small Gas Grills at Walmart

Weber, Napoleon, and Permasteel make good small gas grills that you can find at Walmart.

Best Midsized Gas Grills at Walmart

Weber comes through with the best midsized gas grills at Walmart.

Best Large Gas Grills at Walmart

Monument Grills, Weber, and Fuego offer large gas grills that perform well in our ratings and are stocked at Walmart.

    Lowest-Scoring Grill at Walmart

The small Royal Gourmet GA5404H performs adequately in a variety of tests but gets a failing grade for how evenly the heat spreads across the grill’s surface at the highest and lowest setting, plus the evenness of the grill’s surface after 10 minutes of preheating. We recommend looking at other models on this list available. Here are some takeaways from our testing:

    • Its evenness performance is terrible.
    • Its temperature range, preheat performance, and indirect cooking scores are middling, but passable.
    • Although this grill is less likely to flare up with high-fat-content foods, a full grill may still flare up.
    • We don’t have scores for its predicted reliability or owner satisfaction.

    Grill Shopping Tips

To make sure we test the same grills that are available to you, Consumer Reports’ secret shoppers purchase each one either in a store or online. Here’s their checklist for making your grill shopping a smooth experience:

    • Check inventory online before you head to a store. The grill you want might be in a store near you. If not, Walmart will ship it to a store where you can pick it up and you won’t have to pay a shipping fee.
    • Check the grill’s dimensions. You can do this on Walmart’s site or on the grill’s summary page in our gas grill ratings.
    • Check your cargo space. Walmart offers free assembly but doesn’t deliver assembled grills to residences. You’ll need an SUV or a pickup to haul an assembled grill home. Walmart doesn’t rent trucks.
    • Check the box before you start assembling the grill. Make sure all the parts are included and aren’t broken or damaged. If something is missing, call Walmart’s customer service (800-925-6278). If the wait for a replacement part is too long, call the manufacturer directly to see whether it can be shipped sooner.
