Sound quality: Q Acoustics' M20 had very good overall sound quality - although it has some noticeable sonic quirks, this model reproduces music and dialog very well. Bass has good impact and goes deep, but is a bit prominent and boomy. Midrange is fairly even, but is somewhat hazy, a bit dark and a touch soft. Treble is fairly extended, but is a bit subdued and smeared. Does a decent job of recovering room ambience, but sounds a bit congested. This models comes as a stereo pair, and its sound stage width and focus depends on how well it is placed. When it is well placed, there is good stereo separation but the sound field only extends a bit above, not much beyond the sides of the speakers, and lacks depth. No significant difference between Bluetooth, Optical, Aux and USB sound quality. Can provide a decent volume level in a large sized room.
Ease of use: We found the Q Acoustics M20 ease of use to be acceptable.
Bluetooth: Pairing requires the press of a multifunction connection button (power button), and then the selection of unit from Bluetooth selection list on source device; unit provides an obvious indication that the unit is in pairing mode as well as when pairing has actually occurred.
Wiring Setup: The speaker wires provided are ready, of predefined length, tinned and split for screw mount posts (no tools required). Instructions are provided with descriptions and/or illustrations which explain how to make sure to match polarity between speaker connections.
The volume controls have +/- markings; lacks index markings for volume levels, but provides a visual indication when max volume is reached. Source selector is an unlabeled multifunction button (also used for standby on/off); source indicator is persistent but is ambiguous labels (colored lights).
