Sound quality: Klipsch's R-40PM had acceptable overall sound quality - this model reproduces music and dialog reasonably well despite the obvious shortcomings in its sound. Bass has good impact and goes fairly deep but is a bit prominent and boomy. Midrange is hazy, and a bit grainy and muffled, and a touch plasticky, and the lower midrange is somewhat subdued. Treble is fairly extended but is a bit subdued and sizzly and somewhat smeared. It does a decent job of recovering room ambience and is somewhat congested. This model comes as a stereo pair, and its sound stage width and focus depends on how well it is placed. When it is well placed, there is good stereo separation and the sound field extends somewhat above and a bit to the sides of the speakers but doesn't have depth. No significant difference between Bluetooth, Aux, RCA and Optical sound quality. Provides a decent volume level in a large sized room.
Ease of use: We found the Klipsch R-40PM ease of use to be very good overall. Wired Setup: The speaker wires provided are ready, of predefined length, tinned and split for screw mount posts (no tools required). Instructions are provided which explain to make sure to match polarity between speaker connections.
Bluetooth: Pairing requires the press of an unmarked multifunction button, and then the selection of unit from Bluetooth selection list on source device; unit provides an obvious indication that the unit is in pairing mode as well as when pairing has actually occurred. The volume control is a well labeled multifunction (also source and BT Pairing) infinity knob located on the rear of the speaker. Lacks index markings for volume levels, and has a visual indication when max volume is reached. Source selector is a clearly labeled but not prominent (due to location on rear of speaker) multifunction button.
