    Noises/Leaks

Squeaks, rattles, wind noises, seals and/or weather stripping, air and water leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Air or water leaks

    "left tail light"

Anonymous, CA (2018 Tesla Model 3 Long Range Electric)

"Water entered the trunk after rain storms."

Anonymous A., CA (2018 Tesla Model 3 Standard Electric)

"Tesla service came to my house a year ago to perform a recall on a rear camera harness in the trunk. The tech cracked my back windshield while performing the service and Tesla replaced my back window for free. It has now started to leak into the trunk and into the cabin near the back drivers side pillar (my daughter said her seatbelt was wet when she buckled). I took my car to Tesla service a week ago. They left my car in the rain and said they could not duplicate the leak. Then at the end of the week they said they were able to finally duplicate the leak and charged me $700 and replaced the rear door seal. I brought the car home, sprayed it, and its still leaking from both spots. Additionally, from being left in the rain by back pillar now has water stains. I'm waiting for the manager to call me back to resolve the problem. I've had so many problems with my car: Tesla replaced the trunk initially because it was crooked, the first time it rained it wouldn't charge and Tesla had to replace the charge port, interior trim pieces falling off, the A/C has a mildew smell and Tesla took so long to replace the filters the first time I (coincidentally?) got pneumonia, the smell occurs every year and I have to replace the filters annually, the back seat won't stop squeaking, the rear breaks kept squealing and had to be fixed, and now this I will never buy another Tesla. The service center has also been horrible to deal with. They told me that since they replaced the glass over a year ago even if they find a leak in the seal I have to pay for it."

Anonymous, TX (2018 Tesla Model 3 Long Range Electric)
    Other noises & leaks problem

"At low speeds the car tends to make some squeaks and groans especially when turning."

Anonymous A., VT (2018 Tesla Model 3 Long Range Electric)
    Squeaks or rattles

"annoying seat belt and steering wheel column noises"

Anonymous, CA (2018 Tesla Model 3 Long Range Electric)

"The back seat squeaks when someone sits in it on the passengers side. It appears to be because the main clip is located on one corner of the seat and the squeak is occurring at the opposite corner."

Anonymous, TX (2018 Tesla Model 3 Long Range Electric)

"Control arm on the front wheels started making loud creaking noises. Tesla replaced it at cost with no labor charges."

Anonymous, ON (2018 Tesla Model 3 Long Range Electric)

Anonymous A., OR (2018 Tesla Model 3 Long Range Electric)
    Shocks or struts

"Loud popping sounds, leading to a service visit. Service visit repaired issues with struts, but did not reassemble things correctly, resulting in parking brake failure, which triggered a raft of other errors, which resulted in having to be towed to service."

Anonymous, WA (2018 Tesla Model 3 Long Range Electric)

    Charging door problem

"At one point the charging door wouldn't open when the "open charge port" button was pressed."

Anonymous A., WA (2018 Tesla Model 3 Long Range Electric)
    Other electric/hybrid charging problem

"1) Running out of charge while still having 15% left What happened: When driving over Teton pass (WY 22) to the supercharger in Jackson, WY, I got down to 20% charge (which is expected at that point in the route), but the car began to slow down (speed limit 55mph) from 45mph to 35mph down to 0mph all while having 15% remaining, being told my the car's navigation that I could still make it with room to spare, and with the gas pedal pinned to the floor. All I could do is an emergency U-turn in the middle of traffic on this 2 lane mountain road and regenerate back into Victor, WY, where I convinced a resort to disconnect one of their cabins to let me charge up enough to make it the rest of the way (4 hours of charging iirc). 2)Charging failed, leaving me stranded in the middle of Wyoming: What happened: I was on a roadtrip and the supercharger stopped abruptly. It would not restart. I restarted the car, reinstalled the OS, etc, but nothing worked. I called Tesla supercharger support, but no one picked up (presumably because they were all fired). I was lucky to be able to find a 4kW charger within my battery's range. After 12 hours of charging, I had enough to make it to the next supercharger (which also didn't work). I was able to make it home crawling from slow charger to slow charger. I was EXTREMELY lucky to be only 2 charges away from home in the Spring, not Winter. Service: Tesla originally insinuated that I would need a full battery replacement and fabricated a story about water ingress to prepare me to pay out of pocket for a new battery. After 3 days, they discovered it was only a charging contactor and when I asked about all the water damage, they suddenly said the computer made a mistake, and there was never any water. They were extremely evasive throughout the entire week of dealing with them. A truly awful experience. The cost of the contactor + labor was $972.40. Since this section of the survey isn't about cooling, I won't go into detail, but after they fixed the supercharging, they claimed I had to do a $1250 cooling repair, but refused to show any evidence that there was an actual problem or that they fixed it."

Anonymous, CO (2018 Tesla Model 3 Performance Electric)
    Won't charge at home

"Wouldn't charge in the 220 outlet at home. Car needed a new pcs system. Of course 1 year after the warranty expired! Wtf. 1k it costed me!"

Anonymous, IL (2018 Tesla Model 3 Long Range Electric)
Won't DC (direct-current) fast charge at all

"DC fast charging would not work due to failed relays. We had it repaired ar Tesla facility."

Anonymous, WA (2018 Tesla Model 3 Long Range Electric)

    Climate System

AC compressor, blower (fan) motor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate system, electrical failure, refrigerant leakage.

Anonymous, QC (2018 Tesla Model 3 Long Range Electric)
    Heater system

"Electric cabin heater shorted which drained the 12V battery and caused the car to stop working. A tow to the service center and they fixed it with 2 days."

Anonymous A., NY (2018 Tesla Model 3 Long Range Electric)

"The heater refused to work and only blew cold air. It happened consistently. The problem was resolved by the Tesla service center replacing part of the heating system"

Anonymous, WA (2018 Tesla Model 3 Long Range Electric)
    Other climate system problem

"The a/c system gets smelly a lot. The air filters need to be replaced a lot more regularly than they should have to and they have to spray some sort of disinfectant into the system to keep the care from smelling like a wet dog."

It can be opened and closed manually but it doesn't latch securely closed so it will have to be repaired. Why can't it just be manual? Powered open and close adds no value."
