    Reliability

    Overall Reliability

Reliability indicates how models have performed in the past, providing the basis for predicting how the vehicles will hold up in the year ahead. These charts provide the most comprehensive reliability information available to consumers. Based on information received from our latest subscriber survey, our reliability history charts give you a rundown on how used vehicles are holding up in 17 potential trouble spots, ranging from the engine, transmission, and brakes to power equipment and the electrical system.

    Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

    Climate System

AC compressor, blower (fan) motor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate system, electrical failure, refrigerant leakage.

    What Owners Say

    A/C compressor

"Ac ceased functioning. Have not yet had it fixed"

Anonymous A., BC (2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek Limited 2.0-L 4 Cyl)
    Condenser

"don't recall which part failed. All I remember is the air conditioning system not working. Whichever part it was, was replaced and system checked and returned to working order."

Anonymous, TN (2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek Premium 2.0-L 4 Cyl)
    Refrigerant leaks

    "Leaked, no cooling result"

Anonymous A., BC (2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek Premium 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

"not much detail to provide. got a leak and the a/c stopped cooling. Replaced the condenser when leak was fixed (recommended)."

Anonymous, AB (2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

    What Owners Say

    Display screen goes blank

"In warm weather especially, the screen either won't allow you to select things (touch doesn't work) or it will completely shut off (even mid-navigation!). It's always random and nothing I do seems to either prevent it or fix it."

Anonymous, VT (2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek 2.0-L 4 Cyl)
    In-dash navigation system (GPS)

"I don't ever use my on-board navigation system because it has more than once brought me through unnecessary routes and seems to go extreme with filters I may place on it (no tolls, no highways, shortest distance, etc). It is not reliable at all and I have been late multiple times because it brings me the wrong way or through routes that are incredibly inconvenient (class 4 roads?!)."

Anonymous, VT (2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek 2.0-L 4 Cyl)
    Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

"pairs only manually. Have to force it to pair every time. Old iphone worked. New iphone doesn't. Suspected s/w issue with subaru"

Anonymous, AB (2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

    Drive System

Driveshaft or axle, CV joint, differential, transfer case, four-wheel-drive/all-wheel-drive components, driveline vibration, electrical failure, traction control, electronic stability control.

    What Owners Say

    CV joint

"Have had 4 incidents with drive shaft failure resulting in full replacements in my vehicle. Most have been paid for by Subaru - we paid $600 for one most recently. This seems to be a design or bad quality driveshaft problem. It started after about a year of ownership & has continued every 2-3 years for both sides of the vehicle. Is is resolved completely? I doubt it."

Anonymous A., VA (2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek Limited 2.0-L 4 Cyl)
    Driveshaft or axle

"I just told you about this problem & its resolution."

Anonymous A., VA (2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek Limited 2.0-L 4 Cyl)
    Other driveline problem

"Hum noise from front of vehicle. Diagnoses as wheel bearing. Replaced wheel bearing"

Anonymous A., FL (2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek Premium 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

    Suspension/Steering

Shocks or struts, ball joints, tie rods, wheel bearings, alignment, steering linkage (includes rack and pinion), power steering (pumps and hoses, leaks), wheel balance, springs or torsion bars, bushings, electronic or air suspension.

    What Owners Say

    Wheel bearings

"Both rear wheel bearing needed replacement at different times. The dealer did the work with success."

Anonymous A., FL (2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek Limited 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

"We replaced the wheel bearings at the dealership then they failed after 40,000 miles (supposedly most last 80,000). It was disappointing to have to replace again, but we did it at the dealership again - if it fails as quickly this time, we will no longer use an authorized Subaru dealership for replacement."

Anonymous, IL (2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek Limited 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

    Exhaust

Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, heat shields, leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Engine Minor

Accessory belts and pulleys, engine computer, engine mounts, engine knock or ping, fuel leaks, oil leaks.

    What Owners Say
