    Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2007 Mazda 3 owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

    Engine Electrical

Alternator, starter, hybrid battery replacement, hybrid battery related systems, regular battery, battery cables, engine harness, coil, ignition switch, electronic ignition, spark plugs and wires failure, auto stop/start.

    What Owners Say

    Other engine starting/ignition problem

"Internal coolant leak caused hard starting and rough idle."

    Anonymous, MI (2007 Mazda 3 Touring 2.3-L 4 Cyl)

"every time the vehicle was refueled, the pump that re pressurizes the gas tank would not work and the vehicle would not start. in order to restart the vehicle after refueling or opening the gas cap and releasing the pressure, the throttle would have to be engaged to some degree which occasionally led to starting the car with a flooded engine. this pressurization problem began to occur at all times, leading to the car idling very rough and occasionally turning off completely while idling due to the low fuel pressure. replacing the part responsible for pressurizing the fuel tank seemed to resolve the issue for a short time but the underlying rough idling and occasional failing to start still occurs."

    Anonymous, (2007 Mazda 3 Sport 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

    Engine Minor

Accessory belts and pulleys, engine computer, engine mounts, engine knock or ping, fuel leaks, oil leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Oil leaks

"Oil leak between engine and engine oil cooler. Gasket needed replacing. Don't know how long it had been leaking, but at least a week. Park in underground parking lot with black asphalt and not easily noticeable in dim lighting. Only realized when parking on a friends driveway. Took to mechanic and fixed same day."

    Anonymous, ON (2007 Mazda 3 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

    Climate System

AC compressor, blower (fan) motor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate system, electrical failure, refrigerant leakage.

    What Owners Say

    A/C compressor

"Frayed wire disabled it. Had it fixed for a couple hundred dollars."

    Anonymous, IL (2007 Mazda 3 Touring 2.3-L 4 Cyl)

    Fuel System/Emissions

Sensors (O₂, or oxygen, sensor), emission-control devices (includes EGR), fuel-injection system, fuel gauge/sender, fuel pump, problems filling up the tank.

    What Owners Say

Sensors (includes O2 or oxygen sensor)

"Check engine light comes on and stays on for multiple days in a row. Computer was reset, which allowed car to pass annual emissions test."

    Anonymous, PA (2007 Mazda 3 2.3-L 4 Cyl)

    Noises/Leaks

Squeaks, rattles, wind noises, seals and/or weather stripping, air and water leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Other noises & leaks problem

"Two mechanics have been unable to isolate this rattling problem. It doesnt affect the cars performance but is very disturbing. Despite owning the car for nearly 18 years with excellent reliability and performance if this problem cannot be fixed I will get rid of the car."

Anonymous, CA (2007 Mazda 3 Grand Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

    Engine Major

Engine rebuild or replacement, cylinder head, head gasket, turbocharger or supercharger, timing chain or belt.

    What Owners Say

    Head gasket

"The head gasket has a small internal leak. Cylinders 2 and 3 had small amounts of coolant in them causing hard starting and rough idle. I was able to correct it using AC Delco cooling system stop leak tablets."

    Anonymous, MI (2007 Mazda 3 Touring 2.3-L 4 Cyl)

    Engine Cooling

Radiator, cooling fan, water pump, thermostat, antifreeze leaks, overheating.

    What Owners Say

    Thermostat

"Thermostat replaced October 2020 after check engine came on. This time (February 2024) no check engine light but cabin vent heat would fade when vehicle not moving for example at a stop light. This condition went on for a month, then engine temperature gauge started climbing as well as cabin vent heat completely stopped. Thermostat replaced again and overheating and lack of heat from vent resolved."

    Anonymous, ON (2007 Mazda 3 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

    Exhaust

Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, heat shields, leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Other/unsure

"Rear shock (?) was broken when we hit a pothole on an interstate highway 30 miles from our house. When we got off the road, we passed a still-open auto repair shop and they told us it was safe to drive home. We did so after the event we were going to, and took the car to our regular repair shop the next day."

    Anonymous A., IL (2007 Mazda 3 2.0-L 4 Cyl)
