Ford Issues a Large-Scale Recall for Fuel-Pump Failure

The Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling more than 850,000 Ford cars, SUVs, and pickup trucks and Lincoln SUVs because of concerns that a low-pressure fuel pump may fail. This could cause engine stalling while driving, risking a crash and injury.

The action includes the Ford Bronco, Expedition, Explorer, F-150, F-250 Super-Duty, F-350 Super-Duty, F-450 Super-Duty, F-550 Super-Duty, and Mustang, plus the Lincoln Aviator and Navigator from 2021 to 2023. (Specific years are listed below, though vehicles included in the recall will be determined via their vehicle identification number.)

Loss of fuel pressure and flow from the low-pressure fuel pump can be due to internal contamination of the jet pump, specifically in low fuel conditions, and reduced fuel-pump internal clearances that result in increased internal friction.

Ford advises that drivers may experience poor engine performance (misfiring or running rough), a check-engine light, or a reduction in engine power before the pump fails. The fuel-pump failure is more likely to occur in low fuel or warm weather and hot fuel conditions in the fuel tank.

A repair is still being developed. Ford plans to send notification letters to owners in mid-July 2025. Follow-up letters will be sent once the remedy is available, with guidance on how to have the recall work performed.

Ford is not aware of any reports of crashes or injuries related to this condition.
