    Pros

    • Lightweight and easy to transport
    • Can be secured with LATCH

    Cons

    • Lacks the lateral protection, improved belt placement, and more comfortable place for a child to rest his head that the side wings and belt guides of a highback booster provide
    • Lacks belt clip to aid with shoulder belt placement
    • The rigid LATCH attachment may position the booster seat more forward of the vehicle seat back than desired in some vehicles causing the lap belt to fit incorrectly-- a safety concernt
    • LATCH connector release can be awkward to access beneath the seat

    CR's Take

The Ozzi is very similar to the Clek Olli backless booster, with the main difference being that it’s more difficult to access the LATCH release on the Ozzi—on the Olli, the release is in the front of the seat, whereas on the Ozzi the release is underneath the seat. In our fit tests, we found that the rigid LATCH attachment pushes this seat away from the vehicle seat back in some cases, which may impact the way your child's lap belt fits. This is a significant safety issue because you want your child's lap belt to lay flat across your child's upper thighs, not across their lower abdomen.

As a backless booster, the Ozzi is only appropriate for use with children at least 4 years of age who also meet the weight and height requirements set by the manufacturer. Once your child outgrows their forward-facing child car seat by weight or height, CR and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommend that kids use boosters until they are at least 4 feet 9 inches tall, are 8 to 12 years old, and have the developmental maturity to keep their belt properly positioned for an entire car ride.

    About

The Clek Ozzi is part of the Car Seats test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, Booster Seats models like the Ozzi are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Booster fit (with back): A rating that reflects a booster seat's ability to correctly position the lap and shoulder belts in various test vehicles using a child-sized dummy, when used as a highback booster. Additionally, it includes an assessment of the booster's compatibility with vehicle seats and interior components.

Booster fit (no-back): A rating that reflects a booster seat's ability to correctly position the lap and shoulder belts in various test vehicles using a child-sized dummy, when used as a backless booster. Additionally, it includes an assessment of the booster's compatibility with vehicle seats and interior components.

Ease of use: Our evaluation of how easy each seat is to use, including items such as the clarity of labels and instructions, the ease of achieving an appropriate belt fit, and the transition between highback and backless modes where applicable.
