    Pros

    • Can be secured via LATCH
    • Ease-of-use

    Cons

    • Poor belt fit in backless mode
    • Lap belt has to be rerouted through SecureGuard with every use
    • SecureGuard may position the lap belt too far forward on a child’s thighs
    • Very difficult to remove back when transitioning to backless mode
    • No minimum age requirement, which may prompt premature use for young kids

    CR's Take

The Britax Highpoint booster provides far better belt fit with the back attached (highback mode) than as a backless booster. The SecureGuard lap-belt positioner has to be rerouted with every use, which may be challenging for a child to do on their own. Additionally, the SecureGuard may position the lap belt too far forward onto the child’s thighs, increasing their potential for forward movement in a crash.

    About

The Britax Highpoint 2-Stage is part of the Car Seats test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, Booster Seats models like the Highpoint 2-Stage are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Booster fit (with back): A rating that reflects a booster seat's ability to correctly position the lap and shoulder belts in various test vehicles using a child-sized dummy, when used as a highback booster. Additionally, it includes an assessment of the booster's compatibility with vehicle seats and interior components.

Booster fit (no-back): A rating that reflects a booster seat's ability to correctly position the lap and shoulder belts in various test vehicles using a child-sized dummy, when used as a backless booster. Additionally, it includes an assessment of the booster's compatibility with vehicle seats and interior components.

Ease of use: Our evaluation of how easy each seat is to use, including items such as the clarity of labels and instructions, the ease of achieving an appropriate belt fit, and the transition between highback and backless modes where applicable.
