    Pros

    • LATCH allowed at full range (50 lbs.) of harness use

    Cons

    • Headrest very difficult to adjust
    • Belt routing instruction do not match between labels and manual
    • Inconsistent LATCH use limits between manual and labels
    • Unintuitive belt path with top tether usage may actually discourage tether use
    • Booster belt guide is difficult to use and is cause for belt slack in booster mode

    CR's Take

The Baby Trend Hybrid 3-in-1 does not perform well in our ease-of-use or fit-to-vehicle assessments. The headrest is very difficult to adjust. Some instructions do not match product use. Assembly is difficult. The forward-facing harness belt path is unintuitive and overly complicated. The booster belt guide is difficult to use.

    Detailed Test Results

Consumer Reports’ car seat crash test, developed in 2014, provides comparative performance information on which car seats could provide an additional margin of safety.  All child seats sold in the United States are required to meet government safety standards, and Consumer Reports’ tests are not designed to test compliance with those standards.  Rather, we evaluate the seats’ performance under conditions designed by our experts to simulate certain crash scenarios, and rate them on a scale ranging from “basic” to “best.”  The test conditions have been carefully designed to simulate the interior environment and forces encountered during a crash in contemporary vehicles. About

The Baby Trend Hybrid 3-in-1 is part of the Car Seats test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, Harnessed Car Seats models like the Hybrid 3-in-1 are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Ease of use: Our judgment of how easy each seat is to use including the clarity of labels and instructions, adjustments of clips and buckles, the transition of the seat between modes and installation features such as LATCH connections, belt paths, top tethers and booster guides.

Forward facing fit-to-vehicle: A rating of how compatible, easy and secure a child car seat can be correctly installed in the forward-facing direction. This rating is a combination of the LATCH system and belt ratings that are available individually on the model page.

Rear facing fit-to-vehicle: A rating of how compatible, easy and secure a child car seat can be correctly installed in the rear-facing direction. This rating is a combination of LATCH system and belt ratings that are available individually on the model page.
